At a special ceremony held at the Waterville High School Delta Ambulance,
along with MaineGeneral's Prevention Center, was recognized by the
Waterville Board of Education for their supportive efforts in providing
over 2100 H1N1 vaccinations to the student population.
It is in the nature of a health service provider's work to respond
in times of desperate need, often without regard for the time and
energy required to complete the task at hand. Even so, no one could
have expected the monumental efforts made by the staffs of Delta
Ambulance and the MaineGeneral Prevention Center in providing HINI
and seasonal flu vaccinations to KVCS - AOS #92.
The staff at MaineGeneral provided the infrastructure, personnel,
and resources to address a significant need in our community that
our school system would have been very challenged to meet if acting
alone. MaineGeneral provided medical staff, health educators, vaccine,
and medical supplies for this initiative all of which came at no
cost to our students and families.
When called upon to assist, the Delta Ambulance team responded
without hesitation. The Delta staff administered vaccinations efficiently
while, without exception, putting fearful students at ease with
the prospect of getting a shot -- a challenging feat, for sure.
Ultimately, four clinics were held in the school district
and over 2,100 students vaccinated. There is simply no way to overstate
the impact that these people had on our school and community.
In greatest appreciation for their collaboration and efforts,
the Board is proud to present a Community Award to the Prevention
Center of MaineGeneral Medical Center and Delta Ambulance.
