Sidney Rescue puts Delta Gift to Work
September 2001
Recently, Sidney Rescue was able
to place a new Rescue vehicle into service Thanks to Delta Ambulance. Assistant
Chief Dick Haisch said that they had priced new rescue vehicles and found
that a similar vehicle retails for around $114,000, which he stated is
a rather exorbitant cost for a small rescue service.
Instead, with the donation of a
retired Delta Ambulance unit, they
were able to keep the cost to around $11,000. "We installed a new engine,
a little paint, and the lettering... the rest is pretty much as we got
it" said Haisch. "This vehicle was very well maintained and could easily
last us ten years. We appreciate the savings"
Sidney's old rescue was converted
into a Forestry Truck for a double benefit for the town.
Delta, established in 1972, operates
from bases in Augusta and Waterville, providing Paramedic Emergency, transfer
and wheelchair van services, as well as education. Sidney is one of Delta's
Service Communities.
